Be a Counselor at the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute!

All Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute counselors have two jobs, with two sets of responsibilities. First and foremost, counselors are responsible for the safety and well-being of students. It will be your responsibility to check in your students at all required events and at nightly housing meetings. Counselors must be professional, exhibit a positive attitude, and be involved with the students.
Secondly, all counselors have "day-jobs," outlined below. In addition to these specific responsibilities, counselors may be called upon to perform other tasks needed to assist in the smooth and safe functioning of the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute.
Class Liaisons
Class Liaisons are needed in the areas of acting, ballet, modern dance, drawing/painting, photography, choral music, orchestra, creative writing, and film/video. Liaisons are responsible for the comfort, safety, and well-being of the students in each class. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attending daily staff meetings, maintaining a clean studio space, assigning cleaning schedules, taking role, assisting with ballroom dance classes, and attending evening electives. Liaisons must meet the needs of their faculty member by remaining in the classroom for the entirety of the class, completing site needs and technical request forms, assisting faculty with performance preparations, etc.
Front of House Manager/Programs Manager
The Front of House Manger/Programs Manager is responsible for creating and dispensing all performance programs. He/She will work very closely with faculty to develop their performance agenda. The Front of House Manger will also work closely with the Technical Director and technical crew to assist in crowd control and enforce front of house policies. In addition, the Front of House Manager coordinates volunteer usher groups and students acting as greeters and cleanup assistants. The Front of House Manager must be detail oriented, possess good people skills and must be able to work under deadlines. This job requires the majority of your time in the OAI main office. Hiring preference will be given to applicants who can bring a computer with them to Quartz Mountain to use for word processing, although this is not a requirement.
Public Relations Assistant
PR Assistants help prepare press releases and assist with visiting members of the media and special guests. They give tours of the Quartz Mountain Art Collection and perform clerical duties as assigned. PR assistants assist with planning the student art gallery opening. The majority of the PR Assistant’s time is spent in the PR office and report to the PR Director. Hiring preferences will be given to applicants who can bring a computer with them to Quartz Mountain to use for word processing, although this is not a requirement.
Public Relations Assistant/Yearbook Producer
In addition to the PR duties outlined above, the PR Assistant/Yearbook Producer is responsible for creating the OSAI video yearbook. The yearbook is a collection of photographs of faculty, staff, and students set to music. (Photographs for the yearbook will be provided by the Staff Photographer.) Short video clips may also be incorporated. Knowledge of iPhoto, iMovie, or a similar program is required. The Yearbook Producer works in cooperation with the Staff Photographer and the Yearbook Assistant. The yearbook must be ready to screen at the OSAI closing ceremonies on the last day of the program. The majority of time is spent in the PR office, and this position reports to the PR Director.
Documentary Photographer/Photo Assistant
This position provides photographic documentation of all OSAI events, including performances, demonstrations, classes, etc under the direction of the PR Director and the OAI Staff Photographer. The Documentary Photographer assists the Staff Photographer with capturing and labeling headshots of every OSAI student. All photo processing must be completed while at Quartz Mountain for immediate use. Photographs will be used in OAI media activities and in the OSAI video yearbook. The Oklahoma Arts Institute owns the copyright and retains exclusive rights of any photos taken at the program. Experience in documentary photography and knowledge of Photoshop or a similar program is required. The photographer must bring all camera equipment and photo processing equipment with him/her to Quartz Mountain. OAI may be able to rent some speciality equipment if necessary.
Site/Stage Crew
Members of the site/stage crew report to the Technical Director and are responsible for the setup of the Quartz Mountain Arts and Conference Center. Crew members are responsible for all assignments given by the Technical Director, and assist with class setup and stage management for performances/events, including lighting and sound assistance. Crew members are responsible for all OSAI equipment. This job requires the majority of your time to be spent in the theatre and class locations. Be aware that this job is physically demanding and very labor intensive.
OAI Store Manager/Town Runner (Morning)
The OAI Store Manager is responsible for OSAI store inventory, keeping financial records and deposits, maintaining orders for CD and videotaped performances, and maintaining store hours. The Store Manager must be able to work in cooperation with the store assistant. This job requires the majority of your time to be spent in the OAI store. In addition, the Town Runner is responsible for driving to local communities each morning to complete the daily assigned errands and purchase supplies as needed.
Improvisation Liaison/OAI Store Assistant
During the first week of OSAI, the Improvisation Liaison assists the improv faculty. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, maintaining a clean studio space, assisting with the stereo system, and checking-in students for daily classes. Knowledge of improv is not required. During the second week, duties will be assigned as needed by OAI staff. In addition, this position will also be working at the Twin Peaks Performance Hall Store after evening performances. The Store Assistant must be able to work in cooperation with the Store Manager.
Performance Videographer/OSAI Yearbook Assistant
This position works closely with the Audio & Video Engineer to record all OSAI performances. This includes attending rehearsals and observing classes in preparation for the video recording of performances. Knowledge of video cameras and equipment is required. In addition, this position also works closely with the Yearbook Producer by collecting and taking photographs for the video yearbook, which is a DVD collection of pictures of the faculty, staff and students. Short video clips may also be incorporated. Knowledge of iMovie, iPhoto or a similar program is required. The Yearbook Assistant must be able to work in cooperation with the Yearbook Producer.
Assistant Videographer/Town Runner (Afternoon)/Pool Chaperone
This position encompasses several responsibilities as follows: during the day, the Town Runner is responsible for driving to local communities to complete the daily assigned errands and purchase supplies as needed. In addition, the Pool Chaperone is on duty to ensure the safety and well-being of all persons in the swimming pool and adjoining courtyard area during posted hours of operation. In the evenings, this position works as the Assistant Videographer by assisting the Performance Videographer and Audio and Visual Engineer with the video recordings of all OSAI performances. Knowledge of video cameras and equipment is required.
OSAI Campus Messenger/Information Technology (IT) Manager/Day Off-Substitute
The OSAI Messenger acts as a liaison between the OAI staff and OSAI counselors, faculty and support staff, relaying important information across campus as it becomes available. In addition to messenger duties, this position is responsible for IT duties including setting up the Mac and PC computer labs, and providing troubleshooting and IT assitance to OSAI staff and faculty during the Institute. All counselors have one day off during OSAI. During their absences, the day-off substitute will check-in their assigned students and report to the OAI staff any classroom needs. This job requires the majority of your time be spent in the main OAI office.
Office Assistant/Special Events Assistant
The Office Assistant/Special Events Assistant maintains a professional and pleasant attitude with all administrative assignments while working in the Oklahoma Arts Institute office. In addition, he/she will be responsible for assisting in all special activities, such as Visitor’s Day, gallery openings, and ONSTAGE Weekend. The Office Assistant/Special Events Assistant also promotes any student performances/events throughout the two weeks. This job requires the majority of your time to be spent in the main OAI office.
