Chorus
The Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute Chorus is a 45-member chamber choir led by internationally recognized conductors and assisted by expert vocal teachers/coaches. The daily schedule includes full choir rehearsals as well as individual and sectional coaching. Students may also participate in supplemental study and ensemble work. Repertoire consists of a wide variety of standard and contemporary choral literature. The choir performs two concerts during the Institute.
Requirements:
1) Complete an online application and schedule your audition no later than noon the Friday before your desired audition date. Click here for audition dates. Audition spaces fill quickly, so schedule as soon as possible.
2) Bring a goverment-issued I.D. or birth certificate to your audition for age verification purposes.
Audition Requirements:
- Arrive at your audition at least 15 minutes early to check in and warm up.
- Sing short musical examples to determine tonal memory.
- Perform a short sight-reading exercise.
- Sing your choice of ONE of the three songs listed below. You will sing your selected song AS WRITTEN on the sheet music provided here (click links below to download music). Singers who do not sing the music AS WRITTEN will be disqualified. The music and words do NOT have to be memorized, and the beginning pitch will be provided. You will sing unaccompanied (a cappella).
Option A: Star Spangled Banner
Tempo: Quarter Note = 90 – 100 b.p.m. (Set your metronome at a tempo between 90 and 100; each click represents one quarter note.)
Star Spangled Banner -- SOPRANO
Star Spangled Banner -- ALTO
Star Spangled Banner -- TENOR
Star Spangled Banner -- BASS
Note: It can be especially tempting for singers to sing the Star Spangled Banner in an embellished, free-form, pop style. If you do that, you will be disqualified. You must sing all songs AS WRITTEN.
Option B: America the Beautiful
Tempo: Quarter Note = 75 – 90 b.p.m. (Set your metronome at a tempo between 75 and 90; each click represents one quarter note.)
America the Beautiful -- SOPRANO
America the Beautiful -- ALTO
America the Beautiful -- TENOR
America the Beautiful -- BASS
Option C: Greensleeves
Tempo: Dotted quarter Note = 40 – 60 b.p.m. (Set your metronome at a tempo between 40 and 60; each click represents one dotted quarter note.)
Greensleeves -- SOPRANO
Greensleeves -- ALTO
Greensleeves -- TENOR
Greensleeves -- BASS
Again, you only have to sing ONE of the songs listed above. If you have any questions, please call (405) 321-9000 or email oai@oaiquartz.org.
