Film & Video
NEW APPLICATION OPTIONS & REQUIREMENTS!

Students shoot and edit a short film based on a pre-selected script. Students work as a group and learn about the various roles on a film set (director, editor, grip, props, etc.) The student film is screened in a public exhibition.  Class discussions and film screenings may contain mature subject matter.  Up to 16 students are accepted.

Application Options:

There are two ways to apply for Film/Video -- submit EITHER a short film OR a screenplay. The screenplay option is intended only for students with no experience in filmmaking but with strong narrative storytelling abilities. The number of students accepted based on a screenplay is very limited.  Please note that screenwriting skills will not be taught at Quartz Mountain; it is simply a new way to apply for the discipline. Screenwriters are encouraged to apply for Creative Writing in addition to Film/Video. Please click here for more information about Creative Writing.

Requirement:

1) Decide whether you would like to apply based on a short film or a screenplay, then complete an online application and schedule your interview no later than noon the Friday before your desired interview date. Click here for audition/interview dates. Interview spaces fill quickly, so schedule as soon as possible.

Interview Guidelines:

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to complete a questionnaire about your work. You must bring the following items to your interview:

  • Goverment-issued I.D. or birth certificate for age verification purposes.
  • EITHER four (4) copies of a screenplay OR four (4) copies of a short film.

Film Guidelines:

  • The short film must be a fiction or documentary film that you scripted and shot, up to five minutes long.  You may submit a film longer than five minutes, but the adjudicators will only watch the first five minutes of the work.
  • Your name must NOT appear or be heard anywhere on the film, including the credits.  If it is, you will not be allowed to audition -- you will be sent home to remove your name from the film.
  • Films must be submitted on four separate DVDs.
  • Please be sure to check that all four copies of your film will play on both DVD players and computers.
  • DO NOT write your name on your DVDs.  You will be assigned a number at your interview.
  • The Oklahoma Arts Institute will retain your DVDs for adjudication and they will NOT be returned.

Screenplay Guidelines:

  • The screenplay must be typed and up to ten (10) pages long. Screenplays consisting of more than 10 pages will not be accepted.
  • Screenplays must be in proper screenplay format.
  • DO NOT write your name on your screenplay.  You will be assigned a number at your interview.
  • The Oklahoma Arts Institute will retain your screenplay for adjudication and it will NOT be returned.

Judging Criteria:
